The Pan-Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere has described the death of it's National Publicity Secretary Comrade Yinka Odumakin as a great loss. This was contained in a statement by the Group's Secretary-General, Basorun Sheinde Arogbofa on Saturday. He described Odumakin's exit as a great loss and a big blow not just to Afenifere but to the entire Nation.
"It's a terrible blow to Afenifere and Nigeria. We've lost a brilliant chap with intelligent and brilliant ideas. This is sad, very sad", he said.
Mr. Odumakin died in the early hours of yesterday Saturday 3rd of April, 2021 following complications from an undisclosed illness. In an emotional phone conversation with The Nation, wife of the foremost Yoruba activist and nationalist narrated that her husband died when his condition was already improving.
"It is true, my husband and friend has passed on. The darling of the media is gone. He has been battling for his life since March 10 and just when he was improving, a respiratory failure occurred", the wife said.
Until his death, Late Comrade Odumakin has been known to be a human rights activist, a committed and patriotic Nigerian with immense contribution to the emergence of a democratic Nigeria and has championed himself as a true Yoruba son with a strong conviction for the well-being of his people.
