TRADITION SPEAKS AS 2021 OSARA FESTIVAL HOLDS IN ILE-IFE (PHOTOS)

As the spiritual and ancestral home of the entire Yoruba race, one of the largest ethnic groups in the African continent, the ancient city of Ife has always been notable in the preservation of the Yoruba culture and traditions. Prominent among such characteristics of the city is an all-round celebration of the African deities.

This Year's Osara Festival was held in its usual colourful style with glamorous cultural and traditional displays. The Festival is celebrated every year in dedication to the goddess of the lagoon.

The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Ooni  Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi Ojaja II, in a public post at His official verified Facebook page @OoniAdimulaIfe gave more clarification on the significance of the festival while also offering prayer for prosperity, purity and fertility which are characteristic of the deity.

"In my unwavering commitment to resetting and upholding the spirituality of our culture and it's modern values, we celebrated the deity called Osara the goddess of the lagoon also known as Osa.

"Osara was predominantly in Ile-Ife and existed since the beginning of human existence on Earth. She spread and became a blessing from Ile-Ife to the world over. As a goddess of the lagoon, she had preeminence over water and it's directions.

"As we all know that water is symbolic because it represents life and as well associates with birth, purity, fertility and refreshments. She is a deity known for her accomodation of all and very reproductive.

"With the authority given to me by Eledumare, I use this opportunity to pray for you that as water is a centerpiece of spiritual symbolism, may your unspoken prayers and desires through purity be answered. May everything you put your mind, hands and heart to prosper and work in your favour", Ooni prayed.
