Nigerian music legend, Innocent Ujah Idibia, professionally known as 2Baba has said that the continent needs to adjust in its regional education system.
Idibia stated this on Tuesday after he donated a multimillion naira recording studio to the music department of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
Taking to his official instagram handle @official2baba to share moment of the official commissioning of the ultramodern facility at the University campus, the award-winning African music icon who was recently honored with the title of a fellow of the School of Music of the prestigious institution, observed that the region can do more in its education system and policies.
He said in the post, "Sometime ago i was honoured by the Great OAU as i was inducted into the school of music as A Fellow Of The School of music.
"Today i just commissioned the multimillion # studio i built for the music department in OAU ile-ife. Upnext is Benue State University
#GRATEFUL #WARRIOR".
Continueing in a separate post, the "African Queen" crooner and first winner of MTV Europe, Best African Act Award 2015 said it had always been his dream to be formally schooled in music throughout his educational journey and to support music projects in schools to the best of his ability, calling on his fellow celebrities to emulate the gesture in their respective places.
"I always wished i had music as a course in my days in secondary and tertiary schools. my goal is to build a recording studio in as many schools that i can. I want to use this medium to ask my entertainment industry/celebrity frinends to do anything they can as well", he stated.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede applauded the music star for his magnanimity, noting that the gesture had positioned the institution as one with the best recoding studio in the country.
“As far as the Nigerian university system is concerned, we can proudly say that today, we have the best recording studio in the country. And that is because of your magnanimity and philanthropic gesture.”, the Vice Chancellor said.
