Mariupol Maternity Bombing: Injured Pregnant Woman And Her Baby Die As Russia-Ukraine War Enters Day 19

A pregnant woman who was injured when a maternity hospital in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol was bombed on Wednesday has died, along with her newborn baby, a surgeon who was treating her confirmed to CNN on  Monday. 

The surgeon, according to reports, told Ukrainian television from Mariupol: "While she was being resuscitated and the anti-shock measures were being taken, we performed a caesarean section and took a child with no signs of life. 

"The child's resuscitation for more than half an hour did not work. Resuscitation of the mother for half an hour or more - without any results. They both died."

No fewer than three persons including a child were reportedly killed in the attack Wednesday and the latest confirmations rose the deaths toll to at least 5.

The attack came amidst Russia's agreeing to temporarily de-escalate hostilities for 12 Hours to allow refugees evacuate.

The 2022 Russian Invasion of Ukraine which President Putin described as "Special Military Operation" today enters day 19 with thousands of deaths of civilians and military forces recorded on both sides.

The invasion which began on Saturday February 24 has equally led to a serious humanitarian crisis with nearly 3 million Ukrainian residents displaced, according to the United Nations.

It has been described as the largest military attack since the second World War.
