BREAKING: Court Remands Ex OAU Students' Union President In Prison Over Alleged Illegal Withdrawal Of Funds

A Chief Magistrate court sitting in Ile-Ife, on Thursday ordered one Ibukun Oyekan, an estwhile president of the Students' Union of Obafemi Awololwo University, Ile-Ife to be remanded at the Kosere correctional centre, over an alleged illegal withdrawal of the sum of 720,000 from the Union's account.

A Chief Magistrate court sitting in Ile-Ife, on Thursday ordered one Ibukun Oyekan, an erstwhile president of the Students' Union of Obafemi Awololwo University, Ile-Ife to be remanded at the Kosere correctional centre, over an alleged illegal withdrawal of the sum of 720,000 from the Union's account.

Ibukun, "Dr. IBK", as fondly called, had on Wednesday 13 April, 2022 been arrested by the Security Unit of the University and handed over to the Moore Divisional Police Station, Ile-Ife for questioning.

Confirming the arrest earlier in a release, the Public Relations Officer of the Union, Ogunperi Taofeek Olalekana, a.k.a Tao, disclosed that the withdrawal was made in the name of the impeached former Union president as revealed by the report of an investigation conducted by the Bank where the fund was domiciled.

Ogunperi further revealed that, Ibukun, using his access as the immediate past president of the Union transferred the funds via internet banking to one Bello Oyekunle Saheed.

He said in the statement, "Following the revelation by United Bank for Africa(UBA), about the 720,000 Naira illegally transferred from the Students' Union account, the impeached president of the 2016/2017 parliamentary session, Oyekan Ibukun "Dr IBK", is confirmed arrested.

"His arrest is coming after the investigation of UBA revealed that the money was transferred to one "Bello Oyekunle" via an internet source."

The accused however pleaded not guilty to the two count charges of conspiracy to steal, and stealing brought against him but failed to meet the bail conditions which included two sureties who must be gainfully employed, be residents of Ile-Ife and with five hundred thousand naira (N500,000) each.

Magistrate A.A. Ayeni of the Magistrate Court 3 then ruled that Ibukun be remanded at the correctional centre until April 26, 2022 when hearing on his case will resume.
