The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has congratulated Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka on his 88th Birthday.
Soyinka, a renowned author, poet and playwright, the first African and Nigerian to win the Nobel Prize for literature, clocks 88 on Wednesday.
Sharing a picture of Soyinka on its official instagram handle, the University congratulated the Emeritus Professor on his new age with the caption, "Happy 88th birthday to Emeritus Professor Wole Soyinka"
Soyinka served as a professor of comparative literature at the Obafemi Awolowo University, then called the University of Ife between 1975 and 1999 and was made professor emeritus in 1999 following the return of civilian rule in the country.
In 2018, the University converted the house Soyinka used to live while he was an active member of staff into a Museum, named as the Wole Soyinka Museum(WS-Museum), in honour of his great academic and artistic contributions to the institution.
