Ife Day 2022: Things To Know As The Cradle Hosts Biggest City Event Of The Season

The 2022 edition of the Ife Day celebration ha s been scheduled for Friday 9th and Saturday 10th of December, 2022.

The Ife Day is an annual occasion for all indigenes, friends and by extension all descendants of Oduduwa  to come together, observe and proudly celebrate their identity and commitment to the development of the source and cradle of the Yoruba race.

The day is triggered around the world for Ife citizens in particular to share love, fellowship and the great joy of being proudly Ife.

This year's edition tagged, "THE HOMECOMING" will be particularly exhilarating as it coincides with the 7th coronation anniversary of Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi as the 51st Ooni of Ife.

The Chairman, Ife Day 2022 planning committee, Dr. Yomi Layinka at a press conference earlier addressed by the Ife Development Board to announce the date for the event, noted that the 2022 celebration will feature the public unveiling of a 30-Year plan, The IfeVision 2050 as a roadmap for the implementation of the Ife Development Agenda, adding that the occasion will celebrate Ife's historical and cultural heritage.

He lauded the efforts of the Arole Oduduwa, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II in his sustainable peace agenda, cultural preservation and strategic developmental projects since ascending the throne.

“We passionately salute the vibrant, visionary and brilliant leadership of His Imperial Majesty, Arole Oodua, Ooni Babatunde Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II. We thank our ancestors for blessing us with this Oonirisa. His youthful energy and enterprising initiatives have added value to the social and economic development of the Cradle.

“Despite unwarranted provocations from various quarters and agitations by many who still feel aggrieved over land matters, Oba Ogunwusi has contributed his quota as the ambassador of peace.

“He called for cooperation and encouraging harmonization not only among people of Yoruba descent but between peoples of various cultures and nationalities.

“We are happy that the Federal Government, in recognition of his herculean efforts, recently decorated him with the well-deserved national honour of the Commander of Federal Republic, CFR, commended as a promoter of peace and unity,” he stated

The Day One of the event, December 9, will feature a cluster of cross-generational symposia and innovation exhibitions tagged "The Source Discuss" themed around Yoruba ethos of "Omode gbon, Agba gbon la fi da Ile-Ife".

Discussions will address issues bothering on Yoruba culture, innovation, technology, Ife youths, community and national development.

The day will also feature a special recognition Awards as well as a Fashion Show by the Adire Oodua Textile Hub, Ile-Ife.

The Day Two(Grand Finale), will hold on Saturday, December 10 at the Ojaja Arena inside the Ife Grand Resorts and Industrial Park, Ibadan Road, Ile-Ife and it will feature the presentation of People's Awards for distinguished individuals and stakeholders of Ife their exceptional community service.

The day will also feature a celebration of local and guest performing arts talents and will be rounded up with the IfeDay Carnival, a festival of merry making and procession by clubs, associations and groups in obeisance of the Royal presence of the Oonirisa.
