Wife of the Ooni of Ife and Founder, Africa Fashion Week, Olori Aderonke Ademiluyi Ogunwusi has said that the initiative has since inception focused on the projection of the African cultural heritage and identity.
Olori Aderonke stated this at the Ile Oodua, palace of the Ooni while addressing journalists at a press conference ahead of the maiden edition of the Africa Fashion Week Brazil.
Holding in the City of Sao Paulo from 25th to 27th May, 2023, the Africa Fashion Week Brazil is a global fashion fiesta adding to the existing Africa Fashion Week London and the Africa Fashion Week Nigeria which are all the initiatives of the foremost Queen.
Queen Ogunwusi noted that the fashion outfit will attract designers from different African regions of South, North, East and West Africa including Nigeria.
"Africa Fashion Week is an initiative geard towards giving visibility, a platform and creating awareness for emerging and established African Designers. The movement started off in 2011 in London and later moved to Nigeria in 2014 and now being extended to Brazil.
"The Africa Fashion Week is a platform that doesn't just shocase fashion but does extensively projects african culture and traditions. When Designers come on the runway, it enables them to tell stories about their culture, heritage and identity.", Olori Aderonke stated.
Olori Aderonke added that the project has over the years offered thousands of African designers of various levels the opportunity and global platform to showcase their crafts.
She appreciated the house of Oduduwa under the leadership of her husband, the Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II whose committmet to the promotion of the African and particularly Yoruba culture and traditions has contributed to the activation of the initiative in its new location.
"Over the years, the Africa Fashion Week has given visibility to over 2,000 African brands both in Nigeria and London and we are particularly delighted for the opportunity through the support from the House of Oduduwa to take this initiative to Brazil which is a country with over 90 million people of Black descent.", She added.
In his remarks, the representative of the House of Oduduwa to Brazil, Mr. Ajoyinka, lauded Olori Aderonke's initiative spanning over a decade.
