Nigeria's Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has said that the newly launched Investment in the Digital and Creative Enterprises (iDICE) programme of the Federal Government is in recognition of the need for the country to keep up with the pace in technology and innovation.
The iDICE programme, Prof. Osinbajo said is a collaboration between the government and the private sector partners, aimed at supporting young entrepreneurs in digital tech and creative industries to unlock their potential and create job opportunities.
The Vice President added that over $618 million has been raised to actualize the project.
"In a world where technological innovation is constantly evolving, Nigeria has recognized the need to keep up with the pace. That's why the Investment in the Digital and Creative Enterprises (IDice) program was born, after almost five years of groundwork and collaboration between government and private sector partners.
"The program is set to support young entrepreneurs in digital tech and creative industries to unlock their potential and create job opportunities. At the launch of the program, I couldn't help but celebrate the remarkable strides already taken by Nigerian digital entrepreneurs. With over $1 billion in funding secured by 180 startups, Nigeria is now Africa's best-funded country with approximately 30% of funded ventures on the continent.
"With the IDice program, we aim to take this success even further. Thanks to the support of partners such as the African Development Bank, Agence Française de Développement, and The Islamic Development Bank, we have raised over $618 million to make this a reality.
"It's a dream come true, and I extend my gratitude to Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, the President of AFDB, for his efforts in making this initiative a possibility.
"The iDice program is more than just funding; it's an investment in a brighter future for Nigeria and its people, and I can't wait to see what the next generation of entrepreneurs will achieve.", Osinbajo stated.
