Arinze's Lynching: Aggrieved OAU Students Protest, Demand Justice

Some aggrieved students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife on Wednesday morning protested the death of their colleague, a final year student of the Department of Civil Engineering, Okoli Arinze.

IFECITYBLOG had reported the death of a 500L student of the institution who was allegedly lynched by a mob on the university campus after having been accused of stealing a mobile phone.

The protesting students shut down the Students' Union Building and barricaded the main road leading to the institution.

The Technology and Engineering Students Association in a release on Tuesday evening jointly signed by its Executives, had announced to stage a peaceful protest as a way to express their grievances and to ensure all parties involved in the murder are brought to justice.

"As of now, there has been nobody to account for the death of the "deceased." The parties known to be involved in these murder cases have been playing a lot of games to throw the case under the carpet and are now nowhere to be found.

"However, justice must prevail because an injury to one is an injury to all. The leadership of this faculty is ready to go to any length to ensure that justice prevails over this murder.", the statement read in part.
