Adire Indigenous Exhibition: Lagos Community Receives Olori Aderonke Ogunwusi on a Courtesy Visit

Wife of the Ooni of Ife, Olori Ronke Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi was on Thursday hosted by the Executive Chairman of Itire-Ikate LCDA of Lagos State, Hon. (Dr) Ahmed Olanrewaju Apatira on a courtesy visit.

The council boss while appreciating the queen for the honour, disclosed his plan to establish a textile hub in the district as part of his administration’s commitment to empowering the youths in the area.

Speaking at the reception, Apatira reiterated his administration’s commitment to securing a better future for the teeming youth population in the LCDA and by extension, Lagos state.

He said, “We acknowledge that youths are integral to every community and nation. And this explains why we are committed to empowering them through vocational training and employment creation.

"Our administration is poised to rescue our youths out of uncertainties. When productively engaged, the youths can be agents of positive development and generational change, but if misused, they can be destructive and chaotic.

"To this end, as part of our investment in our youths, we will be establishing a textile hub just as we are preparing to host Adire indigenous textile exhibition.

"I, therefore, urge the government at all levels to invest massively in the future of our youths, as we always have in Itire-Ikate LCDA, in order to bring their potential to reality.”

The renowned Queen and initiator, Adire Indigenous Textile Exhibition 2023, emphasised the need to intensify efforts in the promotion and preservation of the indigenous fabric owing largely to its huge cultural and economic benefits to the people and the country at large.

Olori Aderonke commended the local chair for the determination to upscale the lives of his subjects particularly the youths through Adire initiative.

She said, "Adire has the potentials to grow our country’s GDP tremendously but we need to adequately harness these opportunities using the right channels.

"An initiative like the Adire Indigenous Textile Exhibition will further contribute immensely to the projection of the products within and outside the country".

Olori Ronke Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi is a Nigerian fashion expert and entrepreneur. She is the Founder, Adire Oodua Textile Hub, Ile-Ife; Africa Fashion Week Nigeria, London and Cofounder, Africa Fashion Week Brazil.
