Olokun Festival Lagos Kick-starts As High Priestess Yeye Lara Fashola Enters Seclusion | ICB News

The 2023 edition of the annual Olokun Festival held in Lagos Nigeria commenced on Sunday with the entry into seclusion of the custodian and Oluase Olokun, Ambassador (Dr.) Yeye Lara Fashola Fanimokun.

Addressing journalists shortly before proceeding into the five days period of denial, the priestess revealed that the seclusion rite is sacrosanct for her spiritual purification and propitiation before other major activities of the event.

"My seclusion preceeding the Olokun Festival starts tonight. This is to enable me prepare spiritually for the tasks ahead. During this period, I will be in fast, prayers and propitiations.", she said.

The ECOWAS Youth Ambassador and Maritime Lawyer then called on all Isese practitioners and cultural enthusiasts to join in the epoch celebration aimed at sustaining the promotion and preservation of the yoruba traditions and cultural heritage.

"We call on practitioners of the Isese devotees and cultural enthusiasts to join us in celebration of the Orisha Olokun.", she added

Olokun is believed to be the goddess of wealth, riches and fertility.

The grand finale of the event scheduled to hold on Saturday the 26th of August, 2023 at the Elegushi Beach in Lagos beginning from 10am is expected to be attended by prominent yoruba cultural ambassadors, the Isese adherents and traditional rulers including the Supreme Royal Father of the day, the Arole Oduduwa, His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II.

Highlights of the event will include worships, dance, arts and crafts exhibitions, cultural displays and performances as well as beach fiesta and entertainment.
