Thousands of fans and lovers of the late Nigerian singer, rapper and songwriter, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba popularly known as Mohbad on Friday in Ile-Ife joined millions others globally to mourn his passing.
The aggrieved fans assembled at Mayfair roundabout in the city, carrying placards with various inscriptions such as "Justice for Mohbad", "RIP Mohbad", among others with mourning songs on top of their voices.
Mohbad died on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at a hospital in Lagos, Nigeria at the age of 27.
The circumstances surrounding his death and the manner in which he was buried less than 24hrs of his demise however sparked controversies and public outcry from Nigerians and Mohbad fans globally.
The development led to the Nigerian Police, setting up an investigative panel on Monday September 18, to unravel the circumstances surrounding the late singer’s death.
The Lagos State Government through a delegation led by the State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat on Tuesday September 19, paid a condolence visit to the mother of the deceased, assuring her that justice will be served in the matter, adding that the DSS will work with the police in the investigation.
The government also promised to assist the family and take good care of Mohbad's Five Months old baby.
On Thursday, September 21, Mohbad's body was exhumed and an autopsy conducted while the result is being awaited.
Mohbad was signed to Naira Marley's Marlian Records in 2019 but left three years later in 2022 due to alleged assault and unpaid royalties.
