Wife of the Ooni of Ife, Her Royal Majesty, Olori Aderonke Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi on Friday launched the maiden UK Africa Trade Expo as one of the major activities in this Year's Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) holding at the prestigious Institute of Directors, Pall Mall, London.
Delivering her speech at the event, Olori Aderonke noted that the Expo tagged "Beyond Fashion" is in furtherance of the contribution of the AFWL and its subsidiaries in Nigeria and Brazil to the sustenance of the global value chain in the business of fashion.
The invention, she added, is designed to avail African Designers and Exhibitors the additional opportunity to showcase their crafts to the global market.
The foremost African Queen and Princess of Royal Ife Kingdom who equally is the Founder of the Adire Oodua Textile Hub, Ile-Ife, further reiterated her mission of using the African Fashion enterprise and potentials for empowering youths, innovating ideas and promoting culture.
The Africa Fashion Week brand, she noted, has since inception showcased over 2,000 African fashion MSME brands on the world stage.
She added that the AFWL has grown to become Europe's largest annual fashion event that focuses on promoting and nurturing African and African-inspired design talents outside the shores of the continent.
"The Africa Fashion Week London was birthed out of the need to creating a platform for showcasing the rich African fashion and designers to the global space and today, over a decade later, the success story has been more than impressive.
"The project now has versions in two other continents with the launch of Africa Fashion Week Nigeria in 2014 and more recently the Africa Fashion Week Brazil in 2022.
"An extension of this mission also gave birth to the founding of the Adire Oodua Textile Hub, Ile-Ife, an initiative for training and empowering women and youths in the community.", she stated.
Keynote address at the opening ceremony was delivered by His Imperial Majesty Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, represented by Her Royal Highness, Erelu Olajumoke Awodeyi.
The event was attended by notable figures including prominent members of the Osun State Cabinet, Royalties and top business executives.
