The Excellence in Research Practice Award with its maiden edition in 2023 is bestowed upon a distinguished alumnus of the institution who has demonstrated exceptional contributions to knowledge-based accomplishments, both nationally and globally.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Adebayo Simeon Bamire, described Prof. Ali as a worthy ambassador of the institution, adding that the honour is in recognition of his continued success and contributions to the academic community and society at large.
The award presentation and celebration, held at the Oduduwa Hall of the institution was attended by eminent personalities from various walks of life.
Among those in attendance was the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the Osun State University who also was the keynote speaker, Prof. Shola Akinrinade; Vice-Chancellor of the Kwara State University, Malete, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Alade Jimoh; Vice-Chancellor of Fountain University, Osogbo, Professor Olayinka Ramota Karim; Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof. AbdulRasheed Na'Allah among others.
Royal fathers including the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu Gambari who was represented; the Olubosin of Ifetedo, Oba Akinola Oyetade Akinrera Latiiri I; Ogunsua of Modakeke Oba Olubiyi Toriola among others were also in attendance.
Prof Ali was honored alongside over 300 best students of the institution from all departments tagged "The OAU Stars" for the year 2024 for whom he was entrusted with the role of mentorship and guidance.
In his acceptance speech, Prof Yusuf Ali (SAN) expressed gratitude to the Almighty Allah for his doings in his life while extending appreciation to the University management for finding him worthy of the very special recognition.
He described his life achievements as results of both personal efforts and contributions from people he meets on the way.
"Receiving this award is not a reflection of my individual efforts, but testament to support, guidance, mentorship, encouragement and inspiration that I have received from my teachers, mentors, family and peers.
“It is a reminder that success is not a solidarity pursuit but a collaborative effort that requires a village of supporters to lift you up, cheer you on, drum support for you and believe in your potentials,” he said.
Hailed from Ifetedo in Ife South Local Government Area of Osun State, Prof. Yusuf Ali is an accomplished legal educator and practitioner spanning over four decades and counting.
He began his Legal career in the year 1983 with his call to the Nigerian Bar when he joined the Law Firm of Adegboyega Awololo & Co where he worked for eleven years before founding Yusuf Ali & Co christened Ghalib Chambers, a law firm headquartered in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria.
In June this year, Ghalib Chambers marked its 30 Years Anniversary, an event attended by crème de la crème in the society including Nigeria's Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, among others.
