The Labour Party’s candidate for the House of Representatives, Ife Federal Constituency, in the last poll, Mr. Olamide Awosunle, has donated copies of exercise books to 320 students who are children of widows across Ifeland, as students prepare to resume for academic activities.
The books were donated on Friday morning, at the Oba Okunade Sijuwade Memorial Hall, Enuwa, Ile-Ife during an event attended by students, their parents and stakeholders across Ifeland including the spokesperson to the Arole Oduduwa & Ooni of Ife, Otunba Moses Olafare, Secretary, Ife Development Board, Lawrence Omidiora and Proprietor, Akinlooye Group of Schools, Alhaji Dr. Sharafadeen Akinlooye among others.
Addressing the cheering crowd, Awosunle explained that his gesture is birthed by the harsh economic reality in the country, adding that young minds especially less privileged like children of widows should not be denied their right to education.
“The true essence of life is the amount of impact made in lives of others, not even money or other material things. I am doing this to appreciate and support our mothers who despite losing their beloved husbands did not give up in the proper education of their children.
“I am equally using this event to call on everyone to support the poor and other vulnerable members of the society to make life better for all. Not until you have millions, start with the little you earn to help others.
“Last year, we renovated classrooms at the S.S. peter & Paul, Lagere, Ile-Ife but I decided to distribute books this time to support students directly and reduce the economic press on the mothers as they strive to provide everything needed particularly books for their children’s resumption.” Olamide Awosunle said.
In his remarks, the Director of Media to the Ooni of Ife, Otunba Moses Olafare described Awosunle as a beloved son of the Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, explaining that he (Awosunle) shares a philanthropic feature with His Imperial Majesty.
“Personally, I learn from him particularly on how he gives so much despite not being a rich man. Within the past four years, Olamide has executed at least 10 projects like this for the students, widows, women, persons with dissatisfied and other vulnerable members of our society.
“Despite spending his personal funds, he did most of the works stated above in the name of our father the Ooni of Ife. Kabiyesi is well pleased with him and I pray that God blesses him to grow in all ramifications.” Olafare said.
On his part, Alhaji Akinlooye; Proprietor, Akinlooye group of schools explained the education remains the bedrock of any development nation across the world.
“Like most of you, I lost my Dad when I was 12, I was raised by my mother but see who I have become today. Appreciate your parents with right attitudes and characters, take your education seriously and avoid bad gangs.
“Do not join those who say education is scam, it is not and will never be a scam. It is what made great nations of the world and this is why I am calling you all to take it seriously.” Alhaji Akinlooye said.
Afterwards, the students queued to receive the gifts, with prayers in the mouths for Olamide Awosunle and his household.
