RRCA Holds 6th Olojo Festival World Chess Championship


The 2024 edition of the annual Olojo Festival World Chess Championship organized by Raia Rooks Chess Academy, Ile-Ife will hold from Friday 4th to Saturday 5th of October, 2024.

The Chief Organizer and CEO of Raia Rooks Chess Academy, Hon. Bisi Awope in a media chat with our correspondent, noted that the 6th edition of the tournament scheduled to hold at the Ife Grand Resorts and Industrial Hub, Ibadan Road, Ile-Ife is designed to have a lasting sporting experience for participants.

Speaking earlier at a press conference organized for sponsors of the just concluded Olojo Festival, held at Ooni of Ife's Palace, Hon. Awope who doubles as the Vice Chairman of the Osun State Chess Association, emphasized the need to harness the huge potentials of sports and sporting activities for the promotion of local tourism.

According to him, the Olojo Festival Chess Championship has over the years offered great opportunity for the celebration and promotion of local culture of Ile-Ife in particular and the State in general.

"We warmly invite all chess enthusiasts, visitors, and lovers of culture to join us in Ile-Ife for this grand event. 

"This tournament is more than just a competition; it's an opportunity to celebrate the rich heritage of our people, promote the sport of chess, and foster tourism and cultural exchange.

"We also use this opportunity for Youth Empowerment Program through OLOJO FESTIVAL World Chess.", Awope said.

Participants at the event, he added, will also have the opportunity to meet prominent Chess stars and administrators including the Vice President of the Nigerian Chess Federation, Prince Adeyinka Adewole, who is also the co-organizer; Nigeria Chess National Master, NM Tunde Onakoya and other top Nigeria's and International players.
