Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke is scheduled to inspect the ongoing construction of the Lagere Flyover and other infrastructural projects in Ile-Ife on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
The Lagere Flyover project, initiated in May 2024, represents a significant milestone as Ile-Ife's first flyover. Awarded to Messrs. Sammya Nigeria Limited at a cost of approximately ₦14.9 billion, the project is slated for completion within 12 months.
Governor Adeleke emphasized that the flyover's location was selected to alleviate traffic congestion, improve connectivity, and stimulate economic activities in the area. He stated, "Ile-Ife deserves not only an infrastructure upgrade but a classical upliftment to enhance the tourism capital of this divine town."
The economic implications of the Lagere Flyover are substantial. By facilitating smoother transportation, the flyover is expected to attract businesses and investors, thereby boosting the local economy.
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, had lauded the project, noting that it would "deepen Osun East economy" and serve as an "economic hub which will expand the economic prosperity of not just Ifeland but Osun East and Osun state as a whole."
In addition to the flyover, the state government has embarked on the rehabilitation of 55.86 kilometers of local government roads across Ife land, with an investment of over ₦30 billion. These projects aim to address the infrastructure deficit in the region, covering roads, healthcare, water, and education facilities.
The administration's phased approach to project implementation reflects a strategic response to funding constraints, ensuring that developmental initiatives align with the state's financial capacity.
Governor Adeleke assured residents that this strategy would fulfill the aspirations of the people, stating, "We are on a march to greater heights for Ile-Ife and Osun State as a whole."
The Lagere Flyover is also anticipated to enhance tourism in Ile-Ife, known as the cradle of the Yoruba race. Improved infrastructure is expected to make the town more accessible to tourists, thereby boosting the local tourism industry and contributing to the state's revenue.
The Governor’s visit signifies a proactive approach to governance, demonstrating accountability and a hands-on commitment to the state's progress.
