The Osun State Police Command has cautioned political parties and stakeholders to maintain peace and avoid violence in the forthcoming local government elections.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Yemisi Olawoyin Opalola, issued the warning during a two-day workshop organized by the Osun State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) on Wednesday.
Opalola emphasized the need for a peaceful electoral process and urged eligible voters to turn out in large numbers, assuring them of adequate security measures.
“We encourage all voters to come out and cast their votes without fear, as security agencies will be on the ground to maintain order,” she stated.
She further warned that law enforcement agencies would take decisive action against anyone attempting to disrupt the peace or violate electoral laws.
“The police will deal decisively with anyone found disrupting the peace or engaging in electoral violence,” she added.
The workshop was attended by key stakeholders, including a representative of the Commissioner of Police, CSP Adebisi Musibau, and the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr. Mutiu Agboke.
The Osun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a peaceful election and urged all political parties to strictly adhere to electoral guidelines.
