Tragedy on Ore-Lagos Highway as 28 Burnt To Death in Fatal Crash

At least twenty-eight (28) people lost their lives in a devastating accident on Saturday at Mile 49, Onipetesi, along the Ore/Lagos Highway in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

According to reports, the tragic crash involved 30 passengers, with 28 burnt beyond recognition. Two survivors, initially rescued with severe injuries, succumbed before reaching the hospital, while two others remain in critical condition.

Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, revealed that the accident occurred on Saturday evening due to excessive speeding and traffic violations, leading to a head-on collision between two vehicles.

“It’s heartbreaking that 28 lives were lost in such a preventable tragedy,” Ibitoye stated. “Drivers have a duty to transport passengers safely, not drive them to their graves.”

He urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to road safety regulations, emphasizing that passengers also have a role in preventing reckless driving.

“Passengers must speak up when drivers disregard safety rules, and they can report such cases to FRSC personnel on the highway,” he added.
