Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, alongside top security chiefs, has approved stringent measures to address the recurring communal clashes in the Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun areas, aiming to restore peace and prevent further violence.
Following a high-level security meeting in Osogbo, Governor Adeleke issued a series of firm directives, including the immediate deployment of a joint task force with full operational support, the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the unrest, and a crackdown on individuals using social media to spread old videos and incite violence.
The meeting also involved a separate closed-door session with traditional rulers and community leaders, where they were given stern warnings to embrace peace or face the consequences.
The governor further declared that any monarch found complicit in future disturbances could face suspension, while those who sign peace agreements will be held accountable should hostilities resume.
Beyond the Ifon-Ilobu-Erin Osun crisis, Governor Adeleke raised concerns about other security threats in the state.
He accused opposition elements of plotting to destabilize Osun through orchestrated conflicts at motor parks, sponsoring fake protests under the guise of aggrieved local government workers, and inciting demonstrations among teachers' applicants.
Commending security agencies for their commitment to peace, Adeleke urged them to act swiftly on all resolutions reached.
The service commanders in attendance, including representatives from the Nigerian Army, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Civil Defence Corps, Immigration Service, and Amotekun Security Corps, pledged to enforce the agreed security measures and ensure lasting stability in the troubled communities.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while warning that anyone attempting to disrupt the peace in the state will face the full weight of the law.
