Osun: Facebook Romance Ends in Court as Judge Dissolves Marriage Over Lack of Love

An Osun State High Court, presided over by the Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Adepele-Ojo, has officially dissolved the marriage between Facebook lovers Adeosun Timothy Adeleke and Boboye Modesola Dorcas, citing a lack of love and cohabitation.

The marriage, which was solemnized on May 3, 2022, at the Ikoyi Marriage Registry, reportedly broke down shortly afterward.

In her ruling on Thursday, Justice Ojo observed that the union lacked a solid foundation, stating that it appeared to have been a sham from the outset.

The respondent, Dorcas, told the court that she met her husband on social media (Facebook) but lost interest in the marriage soon after.

She explained that the petitioner, Adeleke, failed to meet the demands of the marriage, leading to their estrangement and lack of cohabitation as husband and wife.

Counsel to the petitioner, Juliet Okonkwo, urged the court to invoke Section 15 of the Matrimonial Causes Act to dissolve the union.

After reviewing the case, Justice Ojo ruled that there was no point in sustaining a marriage devoid of love and commitment.

“The marriage appeared to be a sham from the start since the parties met on social media and could not sustain their union thereafter,” she stated.

Consequently, the court declared the marriage dissolved, bringing the brief union to a formal end.
