Osun Government Engages Monarchs, Security Agencies to Strengthen Border Security

The Osun State Government has initiated a high-level engagement with traditional rulers of boundary communities to address rising security concerns in their domains.

The move comes in response to recent violent crimes, including kidnappings and attacks on villagers in neighboring Ondo State, which have raised fears among residents of Osun’s border towns, particularly along the Osun/Ondo boundary.

Residents of Owena-Ijesa, the last Osun community on the Ilesa/Akure Expressway, have called for heightened security, particularly in villages far from major roads. Speaking with The PUNCH on Sunday, a local farmer, Kazeem Oyatope, emphasized the need for preventive measures.

“The government and residents must act now to prevent gunmen from bringing their crimes into our villages,” he said, noting that while no recent attacks had been recorded in the area, proactive steps were necessary.

When contacted on the state’s security strategies, the Special Adviser to the Osun State Governor on Security Matters, Mr. Samuel Ojo, assured that the administration was working tirelessly to safeguard residents.

“The government is doing wonderfully well, and a meeting on border towns is scheduled for Thursday,” Ojo told The PUNCH.

According to him, the meeting will bring together all Service Commanders, representatives of traditional rulers of border towns, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun, vigilantes, hunters, and other security agencies operating in these areas.

The discussions are expected to develop strategic measures to prevent criminal infiltration and enhance security across Osun’s border communities.
