Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has mourned the passing of Dr Rauf Adekunle Adeniji, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the party’s National Director of Administration.
In an official statement issued on Thursday and signed by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke described the death of Dr Adeniji, popularly known as "Congo," as a significant loss to the state and the nation at large.
He extended his condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, the Ooni of Ife, and the people of Ile-Ife, where Dr Adeniji hailed from, acknowledging his contributions to political and administrative development.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of the demise of Dr Rauf Adetunji Adeniji (Congo) and offer my sincere condolences to his family, the Ooni of Ife, and the people of Ife who lost one of its promising lights,” the governor stated.
Governor Adeleke also commented on the unexpected nature of the loss, noting that recent reports had suggested signs of recovery. “When news of his return flooded the media space yesterday, I had thought the worst was over but was shocked to learn that he eventually passed away. His exit was too sudden and devastating,” he added.
The governor extended his sympathy to members of the APC in Osun and across Nigeria, recognizing the difficulty the party faces in the wake of the loss of one of its senior administrators.
“It is my earnest hope that the impacts of Dr Adeniji within the short time he was here with us are enough to give strength to those burdened by the emotional trauma of his sudden passing,” Adeleke said. “I pray to Almighty God to grant our departed brother peaceful rest with his Creator.”
Dr Adeniji’s death has drawn tributes from political leaders and community figures, particularly in Ile-Ife, where he was widely regarded as a respected voice in political organization and governance.
