Osun Introduces Unified Daily Ticketing for Okada, Tricycle Operators

The Osun State Government has approved a unified ticketing system for commercial motorcycle (Okada) and tricycle (Marwa) operators across the state in a move aimed at curbing revenue leakages, multiple ticketing, and extortion.

The decision followed a meeting held at the State Secretariat in Osogbo between government officials and leaders of the state's commercial transport unions. The session was moderated by the Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Sesan Oyedele.

According to the Commissioner, the new system is intended to simplify revenue collection and ensure that operators are not subjected to arbitrary charges.

"The administration will not tolerate the exploitation of transport workers by individuals or groups taking advantage of a fragmented system," Oyedele said.

Under the unified system, motorcycle riders will be required to pay a flat daily fee of ₦100, while tricycle operators will pay ₦200. The government emphasized that no additional charges should be levied outside this standardized rate.

Comrade Sikiru Ayobami, also known as Ado-Ignona and chairman of the Okada Riders Association in Osun, welcomed the move.

He commended the government’s intervention and expressed hope that the system would foster greater order and fairness within the sector.

He also pledged the cooperation of union members and leadership in maintaining peace and transparency.

Other attendees at the meeting included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Isiaka Yahaya, and the Director of Transport Operations, Engr. Ayodeji Oyewole, alongside other ministry officials.

The unified ticketing framework is expected to be implemented immediately, forming part of the state’s broader efforts to strengthen internal revenue systems and improve governance in the transportation sector.
